I have trained up to Level 3 in the Gottman Method for Couples Therapy and currently commencing my certification track. I absolutely love working with couples using this lens as it is a powerful transformer and to witness couples re-connecting their love and connection again through this format is deeply satisfying.
The beauty of working within a clinical psychologist framework is that every presentation is different but the same scientific method is applied; a thorough assessment of the presenting symptoms is carried out, a working formulation is created in partnership and an evidence-based treatment therapy (treatments that we know do work/yield results) is then tailored specifically for you and the presenting challenges you are experiencing. I would describe myself as an Active Therapist, I like to have a strong focus on your presenting challenges and work towards changing these with you.
I believe in the presence of the Therapeutic Relationship and the importance of this as a vehicle to support effective treatment outcomes. I am particularly passionate about the importance of finding the right Clinical Psychologist that ‘clicks’ for you. Someone that supports you. Someone that validates the struggle but also can gently challenge you to develop insights and make changes with some humour thrown in at times. My treatment modalities vary depending on the presentation; I use EMDR, Schema therapy, CBT, ACT, Mindfulness, DBT, and Solution Focused therapy as these are the therapies that have evidence behind them and ones I have witnessed that bring about effective and lasting change.
The presence of a community you feel connected it has a deep impact on a person’s mental well-being and resilience. I have run Laughter Yoga sessions to the larger community as a group-based activity to increase connection, enhance mood and build resilience.
At present I am on sabbatical in Ireland but still very much connected and present at Inner Calm; I provide regular supervision as well as couples therapy via Telehealth. I also offer Couples Marathon therapy in person in Australia twice a year.
When I'm not working, I love swimming, surfing , cycling and hikes. I really enjoy learning new things; recently I’ve started to learn how to row, it’s really tricky! Basically, if I am outdoors, I am in my happy place! My two girls and two puppies also keep me on my toes (literally, they are into everything!)
I hope this helps you decide on your next steps and if we could be a good fit, most importantly, I hope you find the best clinician for you, you and your mental health deserve it :)
